Special Outreach

Eastside Community Ministry is always trying to help people meet their basic needs by providing special items collected by ECM or by individuals and organizations through special drives.

Tools for School

This project distributes needed school supplies to area children helping them to begin the school year with the necessary tools to be ready to learn. Each year we are able to distribute over a thousand backpacks filled with supplies tailored to the child's school, grade and teachers requirements. This project is co-sponsored by the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit #29 which assists financially and with volunteers along with individuals, Rotary Club members, sororities and other civic minded groups. Supplies are distributed in August. Applications for this project are available in July.

Thanksgiving Food Baskets

ECM provides up to 350 Thanksgiving Food Baskets to needy families each year. The baskets contain all the fixings for a thanksgiving feast with turkey and trimmings. Over 60 volunteers prepare and distribute the baskets on the Monday before Thanksgiving. Applications are received early in November.

Blankets

The Good Samaritan Nurses Alumnae Association has an annual blanket drive each December which provides blankets for distribution to the needy beginning the first cold wave of the season. Through blanket and financial contributions these nurses are helping ECM make a difference that is felt in the community.
